We restore

With hard graft, even the most degraded ecosystems can recover.

CARBON-CRITICAL

A vast network of man-made logging canals are draining Borneo’s carbon-rich peatlands, making them susceptible to fire. In severe cases, these peat fires can emit more carbon per day than the entire European Union.

DESTRUCTION IN REVERSE

With communities and local government, we work to undo the effects of drainage, illegal mining, logging and fires by reforesting damaged areas and restoring the peat-swamp forest’s naturally waterlogged conditions.

IMPROVING RESILIENCE

Restoration doesn’t just reverse the damage; it improves ecosystem resilience, helping to prevent further habitat loss. Reflooded peatlands are significantly more fire-resistant, whilst replanted areas are less prone to burning again than unrestored forest.

MAJOR PROJECTS

PEATLAND RESTORATION

We work to undo decades of peatland drainage by building living dams to reflood the peat-swamp forest, restoring its natural barrier against fire and protecting this globally important carbon store.

REFORESTATION

We replant native trees grown in community nurseries, reforesting critical rainforest habitat and creating green jobs for local community members.
