Chilli and Friends (Part 4)

Written by Azis K (Gibbon project coordinator) and Cara Wilcox (BNF’s primate scientist)

Yesterday, when I woke up in the forest it was an overcast day. Mum, dad and I started our day, but we had an odd feeling that morning, I’m not sure why. When we were travelling, my dad made an alarm call from in front, my mum and I quickly went to him, and at that moment dad was going berserk at a pile of vines up in the trees! My mum and I didn’t know what had made him go crazy like that because it’s very unusual behaviour for my dad.

I saw my dad pull on a vine, but the vine was thick and had hair! I went to my dad and saw big scary eyes staring at me from the pile of vines. I wasn’t feeling brave anymore, and I was relieved when mum shouted to me to move away from the vines.

I quickly went to my mum, and she said, “This is too dangerous for you, this work is for dad.” I asked mum, “Why is dad so angry?”

Mum answered “This is the most dangerous animal for us in the Sabangau Forest, he eats animals. Dad is trying to chase him away from our area, so he doesn’t eat us!”

I asked mum “What animal is this mum?”

Mum said “It’s a clouded leopard, he looks for food at night when all the other animals are asleep. That’s why we always try to sleep high up in the tall trees.”

After that, dad came to us and said “OK, I have disturbed the leopard enough, he will leave us now. Come on, let’s go and find some food, I’m starving after all that hard work.”

So, we continued travelling and left the leopard there. I don’t want to be friends with the clouded leopard because I’m scared of him! Hopefully, I won’t meet him again in the forest in the future.

To Be Continued…

Owa jantan menarik liana

Bersambung…
