Chilli and Friends (Part 2)

Written by Azis K (Gibbon Project Coordinator)

Last month I searched for a new friend. I was travelling with my mum close to a canal in the forest, and my dad was behind us. When I was eating I heard my mum in front make a ‘hoot’ noise, we make this noise when there is something odd, but we’re not sure what. So, I went there to check, and I came across an animal who was a little bit odd, his tongue was poking out, he had long nails, a long tail and no hair!

Chilli lying down - Sabangau Forest - Unknown - 2015I don’t know what this animal is in the trees, but I want to know! I tried to grab his tail, and he tried to hit me! I tried to grab it again, and he tried to hit me again! I tried again, and he succeeded and hit me! Owch! But I still wanted to know what animal this is! Then, he turned around to face me. I could see he was very angry because I had disturbed him, he definitely didn’t want to play with me! So, I came back to my mum again, and I asked her ‘mum, who is this animal who doesn’t want to be friends with me?’, my mum answered ‘it’s a monitor lizard, he eats meat so be careful around him’! We carried on travelling until we reached our sleeping tree. My experience that day was good to learn about the other animals in the forest, who is a good friend for me, and who is not! Hopefully I will find friends who want to be friends with me in the future…

To be continue..

Bulan kemarin saya coba mencari teman baru lagi.

Owch!

Bersambung…
