Green School Bali held their first Green Educator Course in Indonesian this year, with the theme “Education for Sustainability”. The Green Educator Course programme is being held for four nights and five days from 16 to 20 October. Indonesian (or Bahasa Indonesia) is being used as the main language during the programme as it is aimed at Indonesian educators. This programme has 16 participants joining from all over Indonesia.
Green School held a competition for a scholarship to join the Green Educator Course for two educators. Petricia Andini Hutasoit, one of BNF’s Education Staff, applied and successfully received a scholarship from Green School.
Through this programme Petricia will gain new knowledge and skills to bring back to BNF on how to implement the concept of environmental sustainability into our Education Programme.
The Green Educator Course was created specifically for educators in Indonesia with a focus on how to integrate different themes into lessons. The themes of the programme include “from trash to class”, conservation, permaculture, inspiration for integration and community connections. Participants will learn how to use a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to engage students in the classroom.
Hopefully all knowledge from the Green Educator Course can be applied to the BNF Education Programme, especially our Anak Sabangau Programme in the village of Kereng Bangkirai near the Sabangau Forest.
Our goal is to facilitate the creation of a Conservation Generation: children who are filled with knowledge about and respect for the natural world and who are empowered to take positive steps to protect our natural heritage. Through training opportunities, like the Green Educator Course, it enables us to get one step closer to achieving our goal.(DN)
