Written by Azis K (Gibbon Project Coordinator) and Cara Wilcox(BNF’s Primate Scientist)
Every day I try to find new friends to play with in the forest, but from my experience, I have found it difficult to meet friends that are good to play with. However, this has helped me to learn a lot about the different animals in the forest.

Chilli play with orangutan

I have played with an orangutan, but he was not nimble enough for me; I met a bear, but he had long claws and sharp teeth, so he was too dangerous for me to play with. I also met a monitor lizard, who wanted to hit me with his tail! So I couldn’t play with him. After that, I saw the king of the forest in Sabangau, who likes to eat animals- and could eat me! So I definitely didn’t want to play with that clouded leopard! Most recently, I met a person in the forest; I think people are the most dangerous in the forest because they want to cut our trees, and if they cut all of our trees all of the animals in the forest will be homeless.

Whilst I have been searching for friends in the forest, I didn’t realise I have the best friend in the world right next to me, every day. We are always travelling together, eating together, and she always teaches me good lessons- my mum! She is the best friend in the forest, there’s no one better than my mum! I’m always very happy when my mum plays with me. I don’t need to search for friends in the forest anymore, because I have the best friend, always close to me, it’s my mum.

That is the story of me and my family, Group C, in Sabangau forest.

The End
